A Brand System for a Pre-Launch Product
A concept identity for a founder building toward a first investor meeting, not a finished company.
The brief / approach
We set ourselves the brief of building a brand system for a business that doesn't exist yet in any permanent sense — a solo founder, pre-revenue, with a launch date and an investor meeting on the calendar, and nothing beyond a working name and a rough idea of the product.
The constraint we imposed was speed without looking like it: a logo-on-Canva result is the exact thing this founder is trying to escape, but a six-week brand-strategy process is also the wrong tool for a business that might pivot its whole positioning within a quarter. So the system had to be genuinely reductive — a mark, a palette, a type pairing, and a one-page guide — buildable in the time a Brand Identity — Mark tier actually allows, not a scaled-down System engagement.
The approach here was to design the guide, not just the logo, as the actual deliverable: three rules simple enough that the founder (or whoever they hire next) can apply the brand correctly without a design background, on a pitch deck, a landing page, or a social profile, on day one.
Constraint & decisions
The constraint: this brand had to survive being applied by someone who isn't a designer, on day one.
- A one-page guide instead of a 40-page manual — three rules, applied consistently, beat a document nobody reads under deadline.
- A type pairing chosen for availability on every platform a founder actually uses — deck software, a landing-page builder, social — not just print.
- A mark built to work at favicon size first, then scaled up — most of this brand's real-world use is small.
